The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute (CPI) and European University Cyprus (EUC) proudly represented the Teachers 4.0 Digital project at the 6th Conference on Sociology of Education, held in Volos, Greece, from 23 to 25 May 2025.

Co-organised by the University of Thessaly and the University of Ioannina, the biennial conference brought together approximately 150 participants, mainly from Greece and Cyprus, all united by the theme: “Education as a common good in a vicious world: Democracy, Activism, and Society.” Held in Greek, the conference serves as an important forum for the exchange of ideas on contemporary sociological concepts and educational research, offering an ideal platform to present the Teachers 4.0 project and its mission to address misinformation and foster critical digital literacy.

Cyprus Pedagogical Institute (CPI) contributed with a presentation entitled “Digital Literacy Against Disinformation: The Teachers 4.0 Project and Teacher Empowerment.” Delivered by Dr. Anna Kouppanou and Dr. Christina Stavrou, the session highlighted CPI’s comprehensive 60-hour professional learning programme for educators. The presentation underscored the vital role of teachers as agents of change, empowering them to build democratic practices and resilience in their school communities by tackling disinformation head-on.

European University Cyprus (EUC) also made a significant contribution through the presentation “Training, In-Service and Pre-Service Teachers to Address Misinformation and Promote Digital Literacy.” Presented by Prof. Marios Vryonides, Dr. Charis Xinari, and Dr. Georgia Solomonidou, the session framed the Teachers 4.0 project as a democratic educational practice. It emphasised the importance of promoting critical thinking, cultivating digital citizenship, and fostering pluralism and tolerance to counter the effects of misinformation and polarisation.

The presence of the Teachers 4.0 project in this important conference reinforces its relevance within the wider European educational landscape, highlighting the importance of empowering educators to tackle digital challenges and promote democratic values through critical digital literacy.
