Empowering Educators In The Digital Age: a deep dive into the Teachers 4.0 panel at the ŁCDNiKP conference

On May 27, 2025, the Łódź Centre for Teacher Training and Practical Education (ŁCDNiKP) hosted a crucial conference exploring the evolving landscape of education in the digital era. A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion titled „Teachers 4.0 – The Digital Age,”  led by Dorota Wojtuś. This session examined the outcomes of the Erasmus+ project Teachers 4.0 Digital, aiming to equip educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate and teach in an increasingly digital world.

Understanding the Teachers 4.0 Digital project

Launched in December 2023, the Teachers 4.0 Digital project is a three-year initiative funded by the Erasmus+ Programme. It brings together 16 partners from seven European countries, including Poland, to address the urgent need for digital literacy and to tackle disinformation in education. The project’s primary goal is to provide large-scale capacity-building activities for both pre-service and in-service teachers, focusing on enhancing digital competencies and critical thinking skills among students.

Key objectives and activities

The project encompasses several core objectives: Media and Learning Association+1Teachers 4.0 Digital+1

  • Curriculum development: Designing a comprehensive curriculum that guides educators in teaching digital literacy and critical thinking skills. This curriculum includes practical lesson plans, assessment tools and a glossary of key terms.
  • University course design: Creating a dedicated university course focusing on combating disinformation and promoting digital literacy, aimed at pre-service teachers.
  • E-Learning platform: Developing an online platform offering the „Teachers 4.0 Digital” course in a blended learning format, accessible in six European languages, including Polish.

These initiatives are designed to reach over 2,100 educators across participating countries, promoting a more digitally literate and resilient teaching community.

Insights from the Teachers 4.0 Digital panel

During her presentation, Dorota Wojtuś emphasised the importance of integrating digital literacy into teacher training programs. She highlighted how the project’s curriculum and resources are tailored to address the challenges educators face in today’s digital landscape, such as identifying misinformation and fostering critical analysis among students. The panel also showcased the collaborative efforts between various European institutions, including the University of Łódź and ŁCDNiKP, in implementing the project’s objectives at the national level. Finalizing her speech, she encouraged participants to attend the project courses in the autumn.

Impact and future directions

The Teachers 4.0 Digital project represents a significant step toward modernising education by embedding digital competencies into teaching practices. By providing educators with structured training and resources, the initiative aims to create classrooms where students are better prepared to navigate the complexities of the digital world. As the project progresses, its outcomes are expected to influence educational policies and practices across Europe, promoting a more informed and digitally competent society.
